Craft Ideas for a teen?
I’m 14 and i’m going to Italy this summer but i have to raise all the money ($6,433) and my mom introduced the idea of making crafts and selling them at a christmas stroll and a craft show. sooo i need some ideas ha thanks
There’s another question later on the Hobbies and Crafts board that asks for about the same information. Here’s the answer I posted, with some modifications:
What crafts do you do well? If you’re going to sell them, you will need to have salable items to display. Using the skills you already have is the sensible way to go, particularly if you don’t have time to both acquire a new skill and produce salable products in a reasonable quantity.
Here are some ideas that can be mass produced, depending on the skills you already have:
1. Painting:
Clear glass globe-shaped ornaments with Christmas-themed motifs–angels, trees, glittery stars, gingerbread men, and so on–painted on. Personalize the ornaments on the spot for an additional fee.
Wooden cut-outs. Use a scroll saw to cut out shapes from Baltic birch plywood and then paint them with features, decorative brushwork, and so on. Then glue pins to the back for collar decorations or drill a hole for hangers for tree decorations. Again, be prepared to personalize for an additional small fee.
2. Polymer clay:
Tree ornaments, necklace pendants, collar pins, earrings, buttons–all can be made with a Christmas theme. One cute and easy motif I’ve seen is to use red, green, yellow, and white polymer to make a design that looks like ribbon candy.
3. Sewing:
Felt tree ornaments of your own design.
Ditto collar pins.
Christmas themed “hot mats”–use quilted Christmassy fabric to make a square hot mat with a pocket that fits an 8″ terra cotta or ceramic tile. The tile can be heated to keep a dish warm (with the padded side of the mat down to protect the table) or used unheated to protect the table.
Or “hot mats” stuffed with fiberfill infused with essential oils and spices or herbs. When a hot teapot or dish is placed on it, the scent is released. You can use dried orange and lemon peels, whole cloves, cracked cinnamon, dried rosemary, or other herbs of your choice.

Christmas themed hair ornaments–scrunchies, bun covers, bows, and so on
4. Kitchen:
If there’s no health law prohibiting your selling food, package soup mixes, with a recipe, in plastic bags inside a brown paper bag that you’ve designed yourself. One I like takes a pint of beans (1/3 cup each black beans, small red beans, navy beans, green split peas, and lentils), a seasoning packet of 1/4 cup dried onion, a bay leaf, and 2 bouillon cubes, and a recipe: “Wash and pick over beans. Soak overnight in 4 cups water. Drain and add 4 cups fresh water and the seasonings. Bring to a simmer and simmer for 2 hours or until the beans are tender. Add one can of crushed tomatoes, if desired (optional).” Design your own labels and hand-do them or print them. Promote as Christmas gifts or cool-day must-eats and provide sample servings of the cooked soup. Price to cover your costs and return a profit about equal with your costs ($5 to $6, depending on what you have to spend).
Bath bombes are still a desirable item. http://www.teachsoap.com/bombs.html or http://relache.hubpages.com/hub/diy-bath-bombs
Unique pins, pendants, ornaments, garlands made of cinnamon-applesauce “clay” smell wonderful and last for years. http://www.greetings.ca/making-cinnamon-clay-for-ornaments-010165.php
