America is in “nesting mode” thanks to the tough economy, and more of us will be staying home for the holidays instead of traveling out of town to Grandma’s or going on vacation to a tropical island. If you are planning on being home during the season, you’ll want to make your house as inviting as possible to welcome guests in style and make your own family happy too. Here are some lovely tips for making a home more inviting during the holidays.

- Keep it as clean and tidy as possible

It’s hard to keep a house spic and span at any time of year, let alone during the holidays, but families can make an effort to keep floor and counter spaces as tidy as possible. Eliminate unneeded clutter in early October, and move your furniture around to allow people to move more freely across the floor. Plan on using your vacuum several times a week during the holidays: a clean carpet really makes a big difference.

- Decorate, decorate, decorate

Nothing is more inviting than a home that is really decked out: whether it is for Halloween, Thanksgiving, or Christmas. Let the children get involved or do it all yourself and surprise them when they get home from school: the effect is truly magical.

- Open the curtains and blinds

In the colder months, letting in plenty of natural light and sunshine will elevate everyone’s mood instantly. A house that is always dark, both during the day as well as in the evening, seldom feels very welcoming.

- Add little touches

Little touches, such as infusing your home with pleasant seasonal scents go a long way towards helping a home be more inviting. If you don’t have time to bake, rely on scented candles to do the trick. If you have small children and pets, check out the new candle warmers that melt the wax and diffuse a scent throughout the room without an open flame.

Really make an effort during this holiday season to make your home a cozy, inviting nest: your family and guests will all appreciate the warmth you’ve created.

Candles by victoria tarts and scentsy?

Last year for Christmas I got my mom a scentsy. I just now found out that Candles By Victoria has a similar product. Could I buy the tarts from Candles by Victoria and use in the Scensty? Scentsy doesn’t have as good of scents.

I’m not familiar with Candles by Victoria. Scentsy wax is a soft wax that melts at a low temperature. If the wax at Candles by Victoria is meant to be melted by low heat, it should work. If it’s meant to be burned, it may not melt at the low temp of the Scentsy bulb.

Hope that helps!
