When should I mail my party invitations?

I am planning a celebration for my mother Jnauary 22 2011. With Christmas being a month before the affair I am concerned about the invitations getting mixed up with the Christmas cards and being overlooked. I an inviting 150 guests and it’s being held at a banquet hall, so I need ahead count before the 7th of Jnauary. I thought I could mail the invitations about the 22nd of November and that will give people six weeks to RSVP. Is this too early under the circunstances?
