The wedding proposal has been made. It’s going to be a Christmas holiday wedding and you have just a few months to prepare.
Planning for the big day is a big deal. Knowing where to start and how to plan does not have to be a problem. Lucky for you Christmas holiday weddings are breathtakingly romantic and serene.
After the excitement has piped down a bit, you have to sit with your fiancé and both families to work out how you want the day to turn out.
Setting your date
Christmas holiday is a busy time of the year and you need to remember this when setting your date. This will allow more of your guests who want to be away for the holiday to be present. It will also give you ample time to hire the caterer, music band, an officiator (Pastor/Priest/Rabbi) and most importantly your venue (as this can get booked out quickly).
Budget
Do you want a big or small exclusive wedding? Your budget is considered the most crucial, as it will determine if you are having a splash out or a little country side with close friends and family. Big or small, if the wedding is properly planned it will still be fabulous.
What can you afford? In some cultures, the bride’s family takes responsibility for the whole event. Do you have any savings?
Whatever the size of party you will be having, there are 3 things you the bride will have to consider
- bridal gown
- wedding ring – (a sign of a long-term commitment
- photographs- (to hold that memory for a long time)
There are other important things, but you have to remember that it’s all about YOU first.
Also, lets not forget the groom, after all without him the wedding will not be taking place. He has to be part of the planning as well.
In order to save you cost and not be exhausted before the big day, you will need to call in some favors- your friends come into play (this is where you know who your real friends are). You do the planning and co-ordination while you delegate tasks to your friends who are willing to be of help.
Wedding Venue
Getting the perfect venue can be a bit tedious so start looking as early as possible. If you are getting married in a church, you may want to take advantage of the reception which would have already been decorated for the festivity thereby saving you time and cost.
Color theme
Whether it is a Victorian winter tradition or modern sophistication, you can chose the classic white and silver or the festive red and green. Other popular Christmas themes are Gold, Bronze, Blue, some shades of red and green. You may also want to play around with winter flowers like mistletoe, rose or some holiday elements like light trees, wreaths, snowflakes and icicles to have that festive look. Carnations are also popular around this time
Your wedding gown
Remember it is your wedding and it is all about you. One of your biggest decisions will be choosing that perfect wedding gown. You will want to stand out and look confident on your special day. You can chose from a range of long or short dress. Basic shapes like slim fit, empire waist can flatter your figure while princess style/ball gown will create that fairytale look.
Get a sister or best friend to go with you and shop at bridal boutiques. If you want to order online, make sure you look round to get good bargains. Give enough time for special orders and consider time for alteration if need be.
Wedding accessories
Do not underestimate the power of your accessories, because every one of them can create details that will make you look exquisite and bring the entire event together. Like your shoes, jewellery, headpiece, gloves (its winter remember).
Wedding shoes come in various styles from spike heels, sandals, pumps and even sling backs. Choose one that is comfortable for you because you maybe dancing all through.
Your wedding ring is one of the most essential accessories. It is advisable to shop with the groom and test it to make sure it fits perfectly. Make arrangements to get it engraved for that personal touch. Shop for other matching jewelleries like your necklace and earrings.
Catering
What types of food do you to serve at your wedding and how much of your budget do you want to assign to it? Consider the number of people you have sent invitations to and those who have responded. Add an extra 10% to your attendance list for unexpected guests.
Your catering may be the largest expense on your budget so make sure to select top-notch. Visit or call up as many caterers as you want (at least 4), ask to see pictures of what they have done in the past, also ask each for what they charge per person served. Be honest with your caterer about the need to save and get a good bargain. Choose smaller portions of better food. It is better to have quality of good food than quantity of terrible ones.
Others
Do not forget the drinks, photographs and videos. You can leave this for the groom or his friends to handle; you don’t want to be looking stressed out before the day.
All in all your wedding would be perfect, just relax and have a good time.
Planning a wedding can be taking its toll on you. You can take the stress out of the planning, get more ideas and also learn how to get your wedding on a budget. Nobody says you can not have it all.
Why all this talk of keeping Christ in Christmas?
Why do so many Christians seem to be concerned with “keeping Christ in Christmas”, and remembering that the birth of Jesus is the “true meaning of Christmas”, when Christmas was actually created in an attempt to destroy a popular pagan holiday? Or are my facts on the origin of Christmas just grossly inaccurate?
It doesn’t matter if the date of his birth was not on December 25th or that the actual holiday was made in order to cover a pagan holiday. The sole idea around Christmas is Christ’s birth. We don’t celebrate Christ’s birth any other time of the year. Just because it’s not the right date, doesn’t mean we shouldn’t celebrate it sometime.
He was born April 6th, in Bethlehem.
