What should that child do to get around that while in school? Not that the child stops what others are doing, but that he or she does not have to feel Forced to participate (by harrassment or authority of someone else) to do something that goes against his or her belief system.
For example: Halloween parties and dressups, Harry Potter events and readings (can’t change channel there), Christmas, Valentines Day or any other holiday?

Talk to the teaches before the school year begins. As far as most of these other answers, you are supposed to let the child make the decision as to whether they want to celebrate or not. I wonder if these same parents would let their child make their own decision about joining a gang or not.
