You’ve chosen to make your own holiday cards this year and you’re going to use your Christmas rubber stamps to decorate them with. So now all you need is some inspiration for what to do with them…. Well you’ve come to the right place!

Ways To Use Your Christmas Rubber Stamps

There are quite a few ways you can use your stamps on your holiday cards. For instance you can use them to create single card toppers that you place on your card as the center for your design and you then decorate the rest of the card to match or compliment it.

Another idea is you use your stamps to create a series of little card toppers (if they’re an inch square these are known as “inches”). Because these are so much smaller you want to incorporate them into your design, instead of them being the sole focal point of it. Placing an odd number side by side about a third of the way from the top of the card is a great place to put these small card toppers. Another placement that works well is one above the other down the center line of the card.

You can alternatively stamp your images straight onto your card base and decorate your card around it, or over it. If you have a large background stamp, or even a very small one that you can print on your card as a repeating background image, then you can use them as the backing for your card and use another of your Christmas rubber stamps as the focal point of your design.

Basic Stamping Technique

Once you’ve chosen your design, it’s now time to put the plan into action. The first step is to prepare the surface you’re stamping onto – either a card topper or the card itself.

If you want to color your base you need to work out whether or not you want your base color to show through your stamped image. If you don’t, then you need to mask the area your image will sit on. Masking tape or post-it notes are a great way to mask an area. Simply cut out the shape of your stamp and stick it to the place you want to keep clear of your base decoration before you start coloring it. Once your base decoration is dry, remove your masking so you can start stamping.

To make sure your stamped image comes out cleanly, you need to ensure you ink your stamp fully with a good coating of ink, otherwise you’ll find your image is patchy. Next firmly press your stamp onto the place you want it, hold it there for a few seconds and then remove it.

There you have it! Your first holiday card!
