Doing my kids Christmas party at school?
I know its early but i want to take my time at it instead of waiting till the last minute any great game ideas or any suggestions on how to make it great without costing me a fortune .Its my sons first year of school want to make it a wonderful party that he will remember
Its never too early to plan these types of things. Especially if you need time to coordinate other parents, and gather supplies.
I teach 5th grade, and every year we do some standard activities with the kids during the week leading up to Christmas. Most can be modified for younger children as well.
Watch a Christmas video – choose any holiday movie to watch as a class. Kids can even bring one in that they like to share since most of the classics for children are only about 20-30 minutes.
Christmas Sing Along – make song books up with all of the different Christmas carols in it. Sing as a class.
The 12 Days of Christmas – We do all of the motions that go with the song. It get hilarious once you get past 5 days & everyone is trying to remember all of the positions.
Secret Santa – gift exchange among the children. We do books with the older children, and usually set a price limit. Last year, we had the children exchange a book that they already read & loved so that the parents didn’t have to go out & buy a new book. Once everyone has unwrapped their books, they could trade if they already had it.
Christmas Math – a bunch of age level appropriate word problems working on skills that the children already have.
Vocabulary – How many words can you make up using the letters in Merry Christmas, Seasons Greetings, or Happy Holidays.
Snowman Soup – this is a make & take gift. Each child decorates a brown lunch bag for their parents or a sibling. Inside they put a packet of cocoa, a candy cane, some marshmallows, and a few hershey kisses. Attach the poem:

Was told you’ve been real good this year.
Always glad to hear it!
With freezing weather drawing near,
You’ll need to warm the spirit.
So here’s a little Snowman Soup
Complete with stirring stick.
Add hot water, sip it slow.
It’s sure to do the trick!
You can also look online for coloring sheets, mazes, and other fun games that the children can work on individually or in pairs. They can also make cards for family members or for soldiers who are away from their family this holiday.
For snacks, we usually do holiday cookies, cocoa, & cut up fruit. The parents all chip in and bring different items for the snack or the activities so no one gets stuck flipping the entire bill.
