bringing a spouse on an Irish student visa?

I am from the states and studying in a graduate program in Ireland for the next year. My fiancé and I are getting married back home around Christmas. He will be coming back with me in January. We have been looking into whether or not he can stay but have been finding conflicting answers. The inis website says spouses and dependents are not allowed to stay with someone on a student visa yet many other sites say it is possible if you have enough money to support them. Does anyone know what the real situation is? Also, if it is possible are there either age or time requirements? I read that in the UK both parties have to be 21 and some other countries require that the couple must be married for a certain amount of time beforehand. Any info would be helpful! What are Ireland’s requirements? Thanks!

In the UK a British citizen & their spouse must be 21 in order to apply for a spouse visa, that’s completely separate to someone bringing over a dependent on a student visa & British law has nothing to do with Irish law.

Stop reading about the UK or other EU member states, every country in the EU deals with its own immigration issues & the INIS site is the Republic of Ireland’s go to place for information on immigrating – it would appear that its at the discretion of the of INIS whether or not they allow a partner to accompany you, it’s also dependent on being able to support your dependent on your funds & without being employed, so you can either contact them directly & ask them about it or ring the Irish Embassy in your home country.
