Help I need some ideas for Christmas Party Snacks?
My good recipe book got lost and I an looking for recipes like ham and swiss hor’deurves, sausage balls, cheese balls etc……..
I need stuff thats easy and doesn’t break the bank. Low calorie items would be good too……….Thanks in advance
what are some good snacks to make with the Lil Smokies sausages
Lil sausages are good if you mix (I know this sounds eww but it’s great!) – Ketchup, mustard, and grape jelly. Just glop it in and stir by eye. I used to be not brave enough to try this, but I had it at so many folks who said the same thing I finally tried it and it’s easy – Just put in crock pot and plug it in.
Another good crock pot treat is melted velveta cheese and salsa stirred up. – Serve with tortilla chips. (My husband loves it!)
A good cold dip is salsa and sour cream stirred up and served with tortilla chips and raw veggies. (This is another one my hubby loves)
A traditional dip is sour cream and lipton soup mix (I use either onion or herbal) stirred together. Mix it up the day before the party and let it sit in the fridge overnight for better flavor. Serve it with potato chips or raw veggies.
Note: I like serving raw veggies at parties a lot because anything that is left over after the party can be used in a big stir fry the next day. It helps with preventing waste and makes one more meal easier to fix. People also like raw crunchie veggies.
Rather than cheese balls – It’s really easy to buy store brand cheeses (cheaper!) and then cube/slice them yourself. You can have a variety like montery jack, pepper jack, colby, swiss, cheddar (- whatever you like – you can look for part skim – it’s lower fat.) Place them on a pretty tray with crackers and toothpicks or tongs for serving.
Again one of the reasons I like serving cheese this way is I can use the leftover cheeses in a cassarole or lasana right after the party, so it cuts down on waste. (Cheesy grits casarole! yummy). you can also freeze the cheese leftovers and thaw them out later when you want to use them in a dish.
It’s also really good to get the dough for making croisants and fill the little triangles with this – (cream cheese, finely chopped mushroom,a little garlic, fine chopped green scallions) then roll them up and arrange them in a circle on the baking sheet. Bake however long the package calls for. They are really yummy wonderful.
It’s easy to make cookies using a box mix for cake. Pick your fav flavor (Chocolate!) and add two eggs and 1/4 cupcanola oil. Stir it up and put little teasoon drops onto cookie sheet. Bake at 375 for five to eight minutes (Less if they are smaller – more if they are bigger) you will know they are done when they look dry on top.
These are soo easy and you can knock out several different flavors. People think you’re a real pro for making “homemade” cookies. I sometimes pick what cake mix flavor is on sale to help with the cost.
Brownie mix is great too — Just add a 1/2 teasp. of Cinnamon to the mix and stir up according to the direction. If you want to be extra rich – Just stir in your favorite trail mix before baking. Bake according to the box. (A tip – if the brownie starts to pull away from the sides of the pan then it’s ready to test the center for doneness.)
I have a friend who likes to decorate cakes – I got her to make the sheet cake for me (I bought all the ingredients) and she made the cake look like little packages all side by side with frosting bows and ribbons. Then you cut the sheet cake into squares and each person gets a Pressie. – The trick to this is knowing someone to help out.
One of the most popular things at my parties have been seedless green grapes. Other fruit is popular, but almost everybody really hits the grapes hard.
Hope this helps!
