As long as you have a spacious room, Christmas games props and exciting prizes to give away, young kids will surely have a lot of fun hours during their Christmas party.
Perhaps there’s no other game that’s best for kicking off a series of parlor games than a relay race. For this game, you need a few candy canes, depending on the number of teams you divide the kids into. Just make sure you have an extra supply in case some get shattered during the game. Place each member of the teams a few feet away from each other. On your cue, the first members of each team run with the candy cane hanging on a finger. They should go to the next members of their team and give them the candy cane, using only their fingers in doing so. Then with the candy cane already hanging on their fingers, they go to the next team members. The winning team is the one who finishes the race first, of course without dropping the candy cane.
Why not follow a relay race with yet another fun relay race? Give the members of each team with their own straws. Depending on the number of teams, you should have similar Christmas ornaments that are lightweight. Place the ornaments on the floor, and when you say “go”, have the first members of each team to get the ornament to the other end of the room by blowing on their straws. Then the second members will also do the same.
There are a lot more fun relay race ideas that you can have the young kids to play. How about giving the first members of each team a Santa hat that they should wear as they race to the finish line, then back again to the starting position to get the next members race towards the finish line wearing the same Santa hat?
Turn the popular Simon Says game into a fun Christmas party parlor game by calling it “Santa Says” instead. This time, you start each challenge with the words “Santa says…” followed by an instruction. Young kids will surely have a great time taking orders such as “Santa says kiss your best friend on the forehead” or “Santa says clap your hands 3 times”.
For sure every young child is familiar with statue dancing — that dancing game where everybody should stop dancing and try not to move when the music stops playing. To make the game truly suitable for a Christmas party, play upbeat Christmas songs. Play the music and let the young kids dance to it. Just as soon as you feel they’re absorbed in the dancing, hit the pause button. The children must freeze no matter what position they are in when the music stops.
Get the young kids to wear their thinking caps on for this next game. Children naturally love guessing games. You can either divide the kids into teams, or you can have them outshine one another. In this game, you think of any object related to the Christmas season. State little clues one after the other until one of the teams or one of the kids screams out the answer. A round goes like the following:
This has magical powers.
This helps Santa distribute gifts
Always on Christmas Eve.
This has a nose that’s bright.
(Answer: Rudolph)
It’s best if you keep the clues appropriate for kids their age. Keep on giving a clue until the Christmas object or person is guessed correctly.
Another great physical game for young kids is the following. Have a cutout of Frosty the Snowman standing in one corner of the room. Cut a hole in his stomach large enough for a small ball to pass through. Fashion a snowball out of Styrofoam, cotton, marshmallows and other materials that you can think of that resemble a snowball. Have each of the young kids stand a few inches away from Frosty the Snowman. The kid who is able to shoot the snowballs through the hole on Frosty’s tummy the most number of times is declared the winner.
