Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 oddity: What happened to my progress?

I’ve played MW2 since Christmas last year, and it’s been working perfectly. I recently finally reached Prestige mode and started working my way up. I logged in early afternoon yesterday and played for a while before having to leave for a bit. I logged in about 2 hours later and was greeted by the adjust brightness screen, as if I just bought the game. Fearing for the worst, I logged into multiplayer and my profile was still intact; level, rank, and all. There’s a huge relief, however all my single-player and special ops data is lost. What could cause this? I’m playing on PS3 and I’ve used no hacks or mods.
EDIT: I understand about the multiplayer profile, but my sister said she didn’t touch my PS3 profile. However, now I want to just stop the game from resetting every time I load up. I played through a bit of single player today and saved, then when I loaded up again, my progress was deleted once more. How can I stop the game from clearing itself?

your online stuff would be automatically saved. sounds like some messed with your memory core on your ps3, which could only be done by someone with access to it
