Very odd Christmas tradition, have you heard of this?

Every year on Christmas Eve we set the table for the dead. We put out the good china, wine glasses, wine, fruits, nuts, chocolates, cookies and a nice table cloth and napkins. My dad says it is for our family members who are no longer with us and it’s a Italian tradition. I have tried to find some info on it but have been unable to find anything. I asked my dad about it yesterday and he said because there are so many different regions in Italy it would be hard to find info but he remembers his parents doing it when he was a kid. I am just curious if anyone else has heard of this?

I never heard of it, but kinda spooky, until you mentioned it was for previous family members. that’s a very sweet way to honor your family. One day your dad, and you will be sitting at that table!
