Reuge music boxes are entirely handmade. The company employs only the finest cabinetmakers in Switzerland and Italy to produce their products, using inlays from over 100 different types precious wood imported from all over the world. With regards the musical movement, music is first taken from a piano score. The music arranger then selects an easily recognizable portion of the score and then transforms it into a computerized file. If you in the market to purchase high quality music boxes, there is no reason to look any further than Reuge.
The history of how Reuge Music first began manufacturing exquisite musical time pieces, music boxes, and musical time pieces began with its founder, Charles Reuge in 1865. Reuge was originally a watchmaker from the Val-de-Travers, Switzerland. In 1865 he moved to Sainte-Croix and begins making unique and sought after pocket watches with musical movements, and opened a music box “counter” about a year later. In other words, he went from just having a basic workshop to opening a retail store. At about the same time, however in 1877, Thomas Edison invented the phonograph, which had somewhat of a negative impact on the whole music box making industry, especially as it became perfected and merchandised for mass distribution. However, despite Edison’s invention, and the forthcoming invention of radio, television, tape players, and digital music players, music boxes remain in demand, while the phonograph is antiquated.
During the interwar years, Reuge built a new factory in Sainte-Croix in 1930, which still in use. By 1960, the company directed its efforts towards the luxury gift market, and reintroduced large musical pieces, re-establishing itself as a world leader in the manufacture of deluxe musical movement pieces. Over the next several decades, Reuge expands its market and manufacturer base by acquiring several firms which specialized in singing birds including Bontems of Paris, Eschle, and in 1991 Cuendet – a producer of cuckoo movements. Other acquisitions included Mélodies SA in 1985, a manufacturer of music boxes with Thorens discs. The following year in 1986, Lador was acquired, a company that specialized in 18-note movements pieces.
While once owned and operated by Reuge’s sons and family, the manufacture of Reuge music boxes was taken over in 1988 by a group of Swiss investors in order to modernize and reorganize the company financially. In a bold and fiscally motivated move, the newly reorganized company purchased the Italian music box supplier, Arte Intarsio, whereby giving Ruege complete control of its manufacturing. In 2007, Reuge acquired Mermod Frères, a prestigious Swiss watch manufacturer, which was established in 1812. Shortly thereafter, they produced the Frères Primo 4, a musical wristwatch that plays four melodies on four separate disks on demand. The development of this state of the art mechanism took a period of four years. While the Frères Primo 4 comes with four default melodies – “The Magic Flute” (Mozart), “Canon” (Pachelbel), “Danse Hongroise” (Brahms), and the Spring movement from Vivaldi’s “The Four Seasons,” a purchaser may choose to order alternate music disks. For a sampling of music box melodies, including “Canon,” you may download compatible ringtones for your mobile phone from the Reuge website.

I have a question about my old iPod video?
Ok, I have an old-ish purple iPod video. I don’t know what generation it is, but I got It two summers ago used. It’s a 30GB. After Christmas, I got an iTunes giftcard. I bought songs and downloaded them onto my iPod. When I went to listen to them, there was no album artwork! I don’t know why. I like album artwork, so I want it back. I already made sure that on the music options that “Display Album Artwork” was checked. I even checked and re-checked it. I have a lot of room still left on it, so it’s not that. There is still arwork on the songs I bought before so……I don’t know wat to do! Will anyone explain it to me????
i don’t know why that is happening but if you really want the album artwork just type the album into google images and them copy/paste it into the album artwork place.
