I picked up this free magazine and I was looking through it.Since my dream is to become a actor I was looking at anything with drama.So I came across “Movie extras needed” and it said earn 150$ to be in the background,and they left a number.I want any available chances,I also got casted for a christmas play.

Generally, no. Or if it’s a real background casting company — you may do one job and make $150 and never work again.

If you’re not in Los Angeles, California; New York City or a large city — there won’t be a whole lot of background work.

Background work is NOT acting, really. You can act, maybe. But, anybody who can follow directions can do background work. And trust me, if it’s non-union, they will get the cheapest, most normal people who have no dreams of acting to do the “extra” work.

You want to act, for a career. Then, you do your school drama club and go to college and study theatre. You also do community theatre and get experience in front of an audience, playing roles. Even if you want to do movies and tv shows, you start with practical STAGE experience, in front of audiences. Great training and you find out if you’re seeking to act to be famous.

There is a HUGE difference between a passion for acting; or a psychological need to be famous and have what you think fame offers. In fact, wanting fame, for most of those who think acting leads to it are very, very disappointed when they learn what REAL ACTORS (male or female) do.

Number one: Most WORKING ACTORS do NOT become famous nor rich.

If you want fame and money — pick another career. If you want to act. LEARN TO ACT. Which is, usually, school theatre or after school theatre programs or community theatre.
