I am making a large luminary as a Christmas present, what type of fabric would be translucent enough for a good light flow. burlap? what else??

Sheer nylon, Gauze, Printed or plain silk (you can get a great scarf at a thrift shop). Netting, Organza. Embroidered lace. Raw silk.

Take a flashlight to a fabric store and see what gives you the effect you want.
