What are some other ways to make this easier on my girlfriend?

Hi thereeee. Im gonna be leaving for Basic Training for the Army soon. My girlfriend and I have decided we want to stay together throughout. Im gonna be gone for a total of 6 months. I feel terrible having to put her through this, so im trying to come up with ways on how it will make the time go by faster and make it easier on her. I already know ill be writing to her every day before i go to bed. Basic training is going to be 70 days. So ive made a journal with 70 entries so everyday she can read an entry and hopefully that will make the days go by faster. After the 70 days, i will still have 112 days left. So ive decided, for Christmas, im buying her and I the new Apple iPod touches with the Facetime so you can do a webcam and voice chat anywhere thats WiFi. Theres wifi at the tech schooling ill be going to after basic training. I cant think of anything else. Is there anything that i could do to make it easier on her while im away? From personal experience maybe?

I like how you want to make things easier. I love that. My boyfriend is in the army, and he was also concerned about this. However…. I am unsure about the huge spending money for christmas. Just cause… wow… that is a lot of money. My boyfriend would love to spend that on me, but I keep telling him no. If anything, I want him to visit me…. any money should go towards visiting me on breaks. But hey, whatever floats your boat.

I would say, just make sure to keep in contact. Through Basic you will not be able to use your phone except MAYBE on weekends, but not even that. WRITE LETTERS!!! Those are what kept me alive when my boyfriend was through basic. All the letters he sent me. I got at least 2 a week, and I replied to every one of them so he got letters too.
Once you are done with Basic you will probably be going to AIT, then you can use your phone. Call her. Call her a lot. Even if you can call her, continue to write letters. This helps me a lot. With my boyfriend in AIT currently, I enjoy the calls and the letters. It makes me feel like he’s close.
LASTLY, BE HONEST. Please, please be honest with her, and have her be honest with you. Seriously, when you talk, make sure you guys know how each other feels. That’s is so very very important in a long distance relationship.
