On a new HP mini with windows 7 how do i change the desktop background?

I just got a new hp mini for christmas and i cannot get the desktop to change or get the color of the start menu to change. my friend has a larger laptop with windows 7 and it works when he just clicks the right button and clicks personalize but when i do it there is no personalize just gadgets. Somebody please come to my aid

Changing the background is a feature they removed from the Starter version that comes on netbooks to help keep the expense down. Your friend would be on a different version than Starter.

You have to do their $79.99 “Anytime Upgrade” to Home Premium to get features like that on your machine, or else some people find software like Stardock’s MyColors lets them do it.
