Night was filled with Yuletide cheer,
his simple home stood bare,
its only decoration
a single candle,
flickering
on a plain window sill.
It was all he had
to offer passersby,
a reflection of the warmth
he held in his heart,
inviting any who saw it
to enter and
partake.
He waited at the door
to welcome those who knocked,
but on they walked,
blind to the Glorious light
a lone candle can make
in the darkness.
This brought to mind multiple implications. First spiritual, then the virtue of simplicity, eloquent dignity (give me some of that please), and on the surface the power of flame (nature) as opposed to man- made light. Sacred v. Profane.
