How casual can clothing get at a private dinner party?
I was invited to a friend’s house for Christmas dinner – just a small gathering – about 8 people including her family,another friend and me. But when her other friend arrived, a woman in her late 50′s or early 60′s, she was wearing pajamas and a bathrobe. I was shocked that someone would come to a dinner party dressed for bed. She was not ill and it was not sleep-over, to my knowledge. I asked her why the pajamas, and she said that she just didn’t feel like getting dressed! I would never go to a dinner party dressed in pajamas. Even if it was a sleep-over, I’d dress appropriately for dinner, than bring a change of clothing. Is society just getting too casual, or am I being too rigid?
well-there might be more to that story—I had a small get together once and invited about the same number of people–I did mention that people could come in their jammies and be cozy–(we’d done that before…) I ended up in yoga pants–my other friend copped out and wore jeans—but my one friend showed up in gorgeous pjs….and a tunic like robe—she looked really nice, actually, but felt like she was the only one truly in jammies–so I went and put on my pj bottoms….lol…so see…you may have missed out on that jammies conversation….
