As massage therapists we only get paid for the time that we are massaging, so we cannot afford to be out pounding the pavement all day promoting our business. So wherever we can it is important that we try to ‘leverage our efforts’ so that we can be marketing and massaging at the same time. How is this possible you might ask? Well, we get other people to ‘market for us’.

If you have been following my articles for a while you will already know how important a Referral Reward Program for your existing clients is, but what I am about to suggest is more of a ‘Joint Venture’.

I am talking about Gift Vouchers. We all sell them, we all know they work (especially just before Christmas and Valentines Day) but the average therapist tends to only sell them, ‘when the opportunity arises’. What I am suggesting is that you use Gift Vouchers as a more permanent and proactive part of your overall marketing plan, especially if you are just starting out. In my opinion, a smart way to do this would be to seek out possible ‘partners’ that could sell your Gift Vouchers on your behalf for a commission.

Now obviously the ‘numbers’ need to stack up in order to make this viable for you, so make sure you run through a few figures. Personally I feel that a fair commission to offer a ‘potential partner’ would be around 10-15% of what you would take in from the treatment. You are going to have to make it worth their while otherwise they probably will not be interested.

So as an example, if you charge $60 per hour for a massage (you may charge more or less) you would need to hand over about $6 – $10 for every ’1 Hour Massage Gift Voucher’ that your ‘partner’ sells. Now if this is going to be too much for you to handle, then I suggest that you put up your price so that you factor in the commission.

When you have someone out there ‘endorsing’ you (i.e. saying your massage is amazing) people will be happy to pay more to have a treatment with you.

In fact they would more or less just assume that this is your normal price.

Off the top of my head, here are some possible partners that may be interested in selling your Gift Vouchers. The Body Shop Hairdressers Gift Shops Nail Technicians Real Estate Agents (They could buy them as gifts for their clients) Chemists/Pharmacies Gyms Cosmetic Surgeries/Plastic Surgeons Yoga Schools Naturopaths Juice Bars

Note: Be aware that many businesses may already supply a massage service or represent someone who does, so be sensitive and considerate in your approach.

Also, the ideal situation is for a ‘partner’ to actually experience your massage first hand, so that their testimonial/endorsement has real emotion behind it but this may not always be possible.

There is one more thing that is absolutely vital for you to take on board in regards to Gift Vouchers, especially from a ‘cashflow’ perspective. ‘Gift Vouchers bring in tomorrow’s money!’ So be careful how you manage this money. You have not earned it yet!

The last thing you want is to spend this money in advance and then have 3 weeks straight of little or no cashflow in January because 30 happy little faces with Christmas Gift Vouchers in hand have suddenly filled up your appointment book.

I had a couple of close calls with this when I was first starting out, so I can speak from experience. Be careful!

Anyway, if you d not yet have a nice, warm, professional looking Gift Voucher, then I suggest you put it high up on your ‘to do’ list, because it really is a ‘must have’ tool to have in your marketing arsenal.

Then make sure you take advantage of every occasion throughout the year where people are actively looking to buy gift vouchers i.e. Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day etc.

How many lonely American non-muslims have tried to blow up planes they were flying in?

Why is the Christmas bomber being sympathized with by the liberals and their psycho speak?

Why is it just Muslims blowing up planes and why is this guy being sympathized with?

Loneliness may have caused Dungeons & Dragons, Star Trek conventions and on-line dating services but it is not the reason Islamic terrorists engage in suicide bombings.
